Reading Lists

When we chose the list of questions for our ‘Writers on Reading’ feature we wanted to be sure in answering, the writers would reveal something about themselves that we didn’t already know from the potted biography inside their books.  Possibly one of the most revealing answers is the list of titles they could re -read.  Included in David Baldacci's list are ‘To Kill a Mocking Bird’ and ‘Great Expectations’.  When I read those titles it was like discovering I have mutual friends with someone I have never met or likely to meet. Perhaps when we share titles of books we have enjoyed and even loved we share something about ourselves in those recommendations.

After reading The Muser's post on reading lists I thought I would Google “Why do people make lists?” I was interested to read that apart from the obvious idea that "Lists bring order to chaos” “Lists can force people to say revealing things”.  I hope David Baldacci didn’t feel coerced into saying something he now regrets in the interview he gave us but I delight in the fact that he enjoys re-visiting with Scout and Jem and Pip and Miss Haversham as much as I do, I’ll be sure to pass on his best regards next time I visit!
